About the Calculator

The The COVID-19 Case Projection calculator was developed by the Coronavirus-19 Outbreak Response Experts (CORE-19) team at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.

Tennessee Calculator

The Tennessee version of the calculator is intended for use in the State of Tennessee. By using data entered by users for the number of cases per day in a given Tennessee county or health region, the calculator projects the number of cases of COVID-19, hospital beds, and ICU beds that will be needed in that location.

Version (2) of the calculator for Tennessee, available as an Excel file for download, can project out cases until
May 31, 2020.

Version (2) of the calculator replaces Version (1).

The data for all counties in Tennessee until April 21, 2020, is also available as an Excel file for download. The yellow-highlighted columns in the data file have the information needed to use the calculator. Daily updates on case totals can be located for each county on the TN COVID-19 Case Tracking Map , available as a link on this website.

Additional documentation the methodology of the calculator is available as an pdf file for download.

Calculator for Non-Tennessee Counties

For those outside of the State of Tennessee, we have developed a simplified calculator based on Version (2) that can work for any county in the United States for making projections from now until May 31, 2020. This calculator is available as an Excel file for download.

After May 31, 2020, the CORE-19 team will be issuing another calculator, Version (3), which will be released for making longer-term projections. If you have questions about the calculator, please contact us at core19@utk.edu.
